Audi Fuel Injection - Auto Repair Codes

The information below may apply to Audi 80, 100, A6 2.0L, Coupe 2.3, Cabriolet 2.3 and many other Audi models

Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

1 Drive vehicle until it reaches operating temperature.
2 Stop the vehicle, place it in park or neutral and turn ignition OFF.
3 Connect an LED tester or Voltmeter to terminals 'A' & 'B'.(Click here for details)
4 Connect a switch as shown on the diagram.(Click here for details)
NOTE - Models 80 (1.6L or 2.0L) and 100/A6 (2.0L) with Bosch Mono-Motronic MA1.2 or MA1.3 ECM's will require LED tester or Voltmeter connected to plug 1 (Black) terminal + and pin 33 (for 35 pin plug ECM) or pin 4 (for 45 pin plug ECM) on the back of the ECM plug.
5 Switch ignition to on position.
6 Operate switch for 4 to 6 seconds.
NOTE - Only one error code can be read at a time, to read the next code activate switch again.
7 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.
8 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description(s).

Tips:
  • Connector are likely to be in the colours: 1-Black, 2-Brown or White
Code Format Description

Four series of flashes are used to indicate the four digit codes.
The first digit is indicated by the first series of flashes, likewise for the second digit, until all four digits have been flashed out.
A one to two second flash makes up each series with flashes being separated by short pauses. One second flashes make up the numbers, with zero being indicated by a two second flash.
Each series of flashes is separated by a 2.5-second gap.
A 2-second flash, a short pause, one 1-second flash, a short pause, three 1-second flashes, a short pause and two 1-second flashes indicates the code number "0132". Codes will be repeated after 2.5 second gap.
