Auto Repair Manual - How to read codes (No Special Tools Needed)

1 Warm the engine to operating temperature.
2 Make sure the diagnostic mode selector is turned fully anti-clockwise or the slide switch is OFF.
3 Turn the ignition on.
4 Gently turn the diagnostic mode selector fully clockwise for 2 seconds then turn it gently fully anti-clockwise.
5 The LED or Check Engine Light (CEL) should begin to flash.
6 Read codes as described in the Code Format Description below.
7 Press the continue button to enter the code numbers and get the code description.

Code Format Description

Each code is made up of two series of flashes.
The long flashes indicate the 'tens' digits.
The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digits.
A long pause separates each code sequence.
Code Format Diagram shows code No. 12.
If no long flashes are detected, the code is a straight count of short flashes.
Or...
Each code is made up of two series of flashes.
The long flashes indicate the 'hundreds' digit, however can be a value up to 13 (eg 13 flashes = Thirteen Hundred).
The short flashes indicate the 'ones' digit, however can a value up to 15.
A long pause separates each code sequence.
The top Code Format Diagram shows code No. 102.
The bottom Code Format Diagram shows code No. 111.
